On Thursday, the death of a fisherman was reported as the Myanmar Navy opened fire on a Bangladeshi fishing trawler. The Myanmar Navy opened fire at the ‘Moulvir Shil’ estuary on the south-west of St Martin's Island, trawler owners said. Trawler owner Saiful said that Myanmar Navy members suddenly gave chase to the trawler and opened fire. The fishermen, along with the boats, were eventually released yesterday in two phases following contact between the Bangladesh Coast Guard and the Myanmar Navy, the statement said.
