The club chose to support Heart UK last year after one of its members lost their partner, fellow young farmer Josh Gilbert from Walsham le Willows, who collapsed at the age of 25 while playing for Thurston Rugby Club in September 2017. The money was donated to the charity, which raises awareness of heart disease and problems arising from high cholesterol. Now Heart UK has recognised the five-figure total raised by awarding its Community Fundraisers Award to Dereham YFC. Club leader Poppy Bunting said: "It is always very special to raise money for charity, but it was particularly special for Heart UK because when Josh died so suddenly, it impacted so many people's lives. "The work doesn't stop there - this year we are hosting a range of charitable events to raise money for Endometriosis UK, another charity that is close to our club."
