In 1986 I pitched an expedition to Guinness World Records, from my hometown of Minnesota to Argentina. The final expedition I did for Guinness World Records, from Tunisia to South Africa, included a back-breaking stretch across the Congo. It became the first of what we’d go on to call the Blue Zones.
