CAIRO - 29 October 2022: An official source at the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy confirmed that after operating the Dabaa nuclear power plant with a capacity of 4,800 megawatts, the volume of carbon dioxide emissions reduction will reach 14 million tons annually, which is equivalent to removing 3 million cars from the roads. The source added that the intensive development of nuclear energy is one of the main means to combat global warming, as the volume of global carbon dioxide emissions reached nearly 32 billion tons annually and it continues to grow. The source went on explanining that it is expected that the amount of CO2 emitted will exceed the threshold of 34 billion tons per year by 2030. The source said that one of the important advantages of nuclear energy is its effectiveness in terms of its energy density, as one kilogram of uranium with an enrichment rate of up to 4%, when fully burned, provides an amount of energy equivalent to burning about 100 tons of high-quality coal or 60 tons of oil. Nuclear power is considered a major source of electricity generation and contributes to decarbonization.
