In a recent development, the National Industrial Court (NIC) has intervened in the brewing conflict between the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and their affiliates, and the Imo State Government. The court issued a restraining order against the planned nationwide strike scheduled to commence on November 14, which was initially prompted by the assault on the NLC National President, Joe Ajaero, in Imo State. The application sought to prevent the strike in order to avert potential hardships on law-abiding citizens and their businesses. Justice Kanyip instructed that the restraining order be prominently displayed on the wall of the Labour House, the last known address of the NLC and TUC, to communicate the court’s decision. Justice Anuwe, the Court President, is expected to issue a hearing notice to the involved parties at an appropriate time.
