The leader decides official party policy and Poilievre can choose to accept or ignore resolutions that pass, but convention debates themselves can sometimes create headaches for leaders. The resolution reads that “the Conservative Party of Canada believes that women are entitled to the safety, dignity, and privacy of single-sex spaces… and the benefits of women-only categories”. The Conservative policy resolution is sponsored by the local riding association of Edmonton Strathcona. The Conservative resolution notes that a formal accord is necessary since education is a provincial responsibility.
