In his first stand-up special since the infamous incident at the 2022 Oscars, Chris Rock finally gave his rebuttal to Will Smith, boasting that he took the hit like Manny Pacquiao. In Selective Outrage, streamed live on Netflix, Rock touched on “wokeness,” hypersensitivity, and selective outrage while discussing contemporary issues, including virtuous signalling, high-priced yoga pants, the Duchess of Sussex, the Kardashians, abortion rights, the U.S.Capitol riot, and the American obsession with attention. Although he did not focus on the 2022 Oscars, he occasionally riffed on the strangeness of Snoop Dogg being such a revered pitchman. However, an hour into his set, Rock delved into the notorious moment at the Oscars when Smith struck him. Prior to Selective Outrage, Rock had been touring new material as part of his Ego Death tour for the past year, often mixing jokes and reflections on the slap.
