The Cheetahs will break ranks with South Africa's dissenting four URC franchises by not opposing the payment of their Test match hosting fee to SA Rugby in 2024. In fact, the central franchise's hierarchy is "simply grateful" to have the opportunity of being associated with the historic occasion of the Springboks meeting World Cup surprise package Portugal for the first time ever when they go head-to-head on 20 July. SA Rugby's decree that it wants to garner a collective R85 million in guarantees from the hosting unions of the national team's six home Tests this year has exploded into a rebellion, with the Bulls, Lions, Sharks and Stormers all obtaining legal advice on whether the local governing body can insist on such payments.
