As Israel threatens to launch a military ground offensive in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, members of the international community — including Canada — are urging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reconsider. More than 28,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel began its military incursion into Gaza in October 2023, according to Palestinian officials. Israel has faced criticism from human rights agencies for its offensive, as well as accusations of genocide . Israel claims its offensive into the Gaza Strip is justified due to the Oct. 7 attack that triggered the war. They are paying the highest price, unfortunately," NRC advocacy officer Yousef Hammash, who's in Rafah, told The Current on Tuesday.
