Ostriches at two farms in South Africa were among the latest cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the continent. Following a four-month hiatus, the H5N1 serotype of the HPAI virus has been detected in Nigeria. This was the first HPAI outbreak to be confirmed in the West African state since August of last year. This was highlighted by the chairman of the South African Poultry Association (SAPA) in the industry organization’s latest "Poultry Bulletin."
