All 10 of the identified ACEs are at play in the family justice system, said B.C. lawyer Jane Morley of the Transform the Family Justice System Collaborative, but the system was never designed to address them. “When we look at the family justice system through the eyes of children, youth and family members, we see things differently,” said Bauman. These amendments don’t address the systemic culture of minimizing family violence that many with violent partners continue to face in family court, Hrymak said.
