A baby girl named Afraa, who miraculously survived under the rubble after a deadly earthquake in Turkey and Syria, has found a new family and is thriving in good health. After spending days at a hospital in north Syria, Afraa was placed under the custody of her paternal aunt and her husband, who adopted her. Her adopted father, Khalil al-Sawadi, expressed his love for Afraa, stating, “This girl is my daughter. Afraa’s adopted family stays in a tent settlement at night, as their children continue to experience trauma from the earthquake. Her adopted father intends to share Afraa’s story with her as she grows up, honoring the memory of her parents.
