The Joint Health Sector Unions and Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations have suspended its indefinite strike for 21 days. The suspension was announced after the leadership of the unions held a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Monday. The I-Scholar Initiative (iSI), a non-profit organization aiming to mentor and empower African students to pursue their graduate studies through fully-funded scholarships in leading foreign universities, has awarded scholarships to 70 Nigerian students destined to begin their studies in 2023. The scholarship awards were announced by iSI’s president, Victor Ogunmola, during a virtual event held over the weekend. Out of the applications received, only 70 awardees made it through the selection process. He was explicit about the fact that the organization was only able to cater for three per cent of the total applications received, a figure he deemed unsatisfactory. Most importantly, iSI provides end-to-end mentoring programmes to mentees, including support to potential awardees in applying for global scholarships.
