Washington, USA, 11 March 2026 -/African Media Agency (AMA)/- The World Bank today approved a project totaling $215.9 million (about CFAF 118.7 billion) to support the development of the agricultural sector. The Burkina Faso Agricultural Transformation Project is in line with national priorities in terms of food security, job creation and promotion of the private sector. The new project will focus on developing priority agricultural value chains, including rice and maize, by supporting productivity improvements, modernization of processing infrastructure, and better access to markets. For residents of Foya District in Lofa County, the sight of foreign soldiers raising another nation's flag on land they have always considered Liberian territory has stirred both fear and anger. Guinean authorities argued that the mining activity was taking place within their jurisdiction along the Makona River. "Armed soldiers from Guinea have deployed on Liberian land in Lofa and hoisted the Guinean flag," Momoh said. "Guinea will not allow anyone to steal minerals from its river," a Guinean commentator said following the border confrontation. Reports that Guinean soldiers later advanced deeper into the contested area have fueled criticism that Liberia's diplomatic approach has been met with defiance.

FOYA DISTRICT, LOFA COUNTY — A tense situation has developed along the Liberia–Guinea border in Sorlumba Clan after Guinean soldiers allegedly fired gunshots into Liberian territory, injuring a local resident and taking control of a disputed border area. By Selma Lomax [email protected]According to Voice of Lofa, a community radio station in Lofa County, the incident occurred on Wednesday when Guinean troops reportedly discharged firearms during a confrontation near the contested boundary. Community sources told the radio station that the confrontation began when Guinean troops escorted a group of civilians from Guinea toward the disputed land. The civilians were reportedly heading to the area following allegations that Guinean soldiers had earlier been mistreated by some individuals on the Liberian side. The situation quickly escalated, leading the Guinean troops to fire several shots, one of which injured the Liberian resident.
