Yet, the objectives of the military assault on Iran will remain unclear, and there is even less clarity regarding the consequences. US vice-president JD Vance asserted earlier this week that Washington had evidence Iran was trying to rebuild its nuclear programme. The American president came under pressure from the Israeli leadership to attack Iran to, at the very least, destroy its missile arsenal. Its nuclear programme has been effectively neutralised by US and Israeli assaults; its network of regional allies has been thoroughly degraded. The country’s economy has deteriorated enormously since the US withdrew during Trump’s first term in the White House from a previously negotiated deal on Iran’s nuclear programme, followed by the reimposition of US sanctions.

Erling Haaland OUT of Man City vs Leeds clash in injury blow for Pep GuardiolaErling Haaland is not in the Manchester City squad for Saturday evening's match away at Leeds United, where victory would enable Pep Guardiola's men to close the gap on Arsenal. The Gunners are currently five points clear at the Premier League summit, but City can apply pressure on them with a positive result before they play Chelsea on Sunday afternoon. They will have to do so without Haaland, though, as their star striker misses out through injury. It remains to be seen if Haaland will be available for Wednesday's fixture with Nottingham Forest, with reports suggesting the striker suffered a minor injury in training on the eve of the Leeds game. The New York Giants are reportedly weighing up a stunning move for Seattle Seahawks star Kenneth Walker III. According to The Athletic, the Giants are conducting 'more recon than expected' on the running back market despite already having young talent in their own backfield. While the Giants currently have Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy on the roster, there are lingering doubts about their long-term potential to lead a winning team. Many scouts across the league view Skattebo as a 'complementary back', according to the outlet, rather than a star capable of carrying the franchise. The goal, according to the report, is to provide Harbaugh with the necessary tools to transform the Giants into a physical powerhouse within the competitive league.

The hands of the clock go patientlyover the story again from the top. You yourself have purchased clocks, such as this working imitationwhose original (that’s not the word),is hanging from a wrought-iron frameoutside a bistro you have only visitedin the imagination, which the clockfinds inconceivable. Like the Bourbonsthe clock forgets nothing, learns nothingand unfailingly makes nothingof whatever meets its faithful gaze. And if the clock were a believerthis intolerable hush would bethe prayer it says to time. Sean O’Brien’s 12th collection of poems, The Bonfire Party, is published by Picador

Premier League: Leeds 0 Manchester City 1IT was a case of no Erling, no problem as Manchester City kept the heat very much on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League. VAR might have shown an interest in a push on Marc Guehi in the lead-up had Calvert-Lewin found the net. There would have been no such reprieve when the Leeds striker latched onto a ball over the top, turned Guehi and beat Gianluigi Donnarumma with a low shot from a narrow angle. ‌This enduring appeal comes as more buyers look to seaside towns while travellers continue to choose UK-based breaks over trips abroad, according to Schofields Insurance. Official census data further underlines the scale of this sector, showing approximately 70,000 holiday homes across England and Wales. While Llandudno captures the spotlight in North Wales, property values in other prime seaside areas reflect the high premium buyers are willing to pay for coastal living. ‌He added: "At the same time, property values in some seaside towns have softened slightly, which may create opportunity for buyers. "However, coastal homes come with unique considerations such as exposure to extreme weather, higher guest turnover and periods when the property is unoccupied.
