Most Britons support Ukraine, polls show, and last year, support for Reform U.K. fell after Mr. Farage claimed that the West had provoked Russia into the war. Last month, the former leader of Reform U.K. in Wales appeared in court on accusations of accepting bribes to make statements in the European Parliament that would benefit Russia and its invasion of Ukraine. Reached by phone, Mr. Farage said that he has “never approved of anything Putin has done,” but declined to comment on H.R. Live EventsArtificial intelligence can help detect foetal abnormalities from pregnancy scans nearly twice as quickly but with the same accuracy, according to the results of a UK trial published Thursday. The trial which included 78 pregnant women and 58 sonographers focused on looking for heart problems in the 20-week scans, but researchers said the AI could look for any abnormality. It was also more reliable and 42% quicker than humans when it came to taking foetal measurements, with sonographers no longer needing to pause, measure and save images during the scan. "Our research has shown that AI-assisted scans are accurate, reliable and more efficient," said lead author Thomas Day. "Receiving an early diagnosis for Lennox was really important as it meant we could properly plan the road ahead," she said. "I know that some conditions can be hard to spot and so I'm excited at the prospect of using new technology that can help address this. "The tool is now being rolled out more widely in a number of London hospitals.

”One of the things I really want to do is I want to design a Ferrari,” he told Motorsport.com. But there’s no doubt Ferrari aficionados will be excited by the prospect of a Hamilton-penned car based on the legendary F40. Launched to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary in 1987, the F40 was the last road car personally approved by Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari before his death in 1988. It’s something that has caught out a number of drivers, including the poor soul behind the wheel in January of this F40 — owned by Hamilton’s F1 rival Lando Norris. Naturally, Hamilton has expressed his desire to retain a manual gearbox, just like the original F40, but Ferrari hasn’t built a three-pedal manual car in years and may not be especially enthralled by the idea.

Write to letters@thetimes.co.ukSir, The chancellor is right to focus on economic growth as the only realistic means of funding government spending, including increased spending on defence. Growth targets have been missed but by trying to put the blame for low growth on others, as your editorial correctly states (“Living on a Thin Line”, Mar 27), she damages her own credibility. The economy will grow when our entrepreneurs and businesses are given the opportunity to do so. Increasing the burden on business through barriers to employment, high taxation and increased regulation constrain this. The announcement to extend the Making Tax Digital for Income Tax project to smaller business is an example of this.

Photo/AgenciesBritain's opposition Conservative Party lawmaker Bob Blackman on Thursday asked the UK government to 'formally' apologise for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919.Speaking at the House of Commons, British Parliament's Lower House, Blackman said, "On April 13, 1919, families gathered, very peacefully, in the Jallianwala Bagh to enjoy the day out with their families. General Dyer, on behalf of the British army, marched his troops in and ordered his troops to fire on those innocent people until they ran out of ammunition. Eventually, General Dyer was disgraced for this stain on the British Empire. British troops, under the command of brigadier-general Reginald Dyer, fired indiscriminately on a peaceful gathering of unarmed civilians, including women and children. Estimates suggest that over 500 people died. Then British Prime Minister, Theresa May, in 2019, expressed deep "regret" for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, calling it “a shameful scar on British Indian history”.

A heavy vehicle that was carrying four U.S. Army soldiers remained submerged in a swamp in Lithuania on Thursday, two days after the soldiers were reported missing after they did not return from a training mission, the U.S. military said. The vehicle was discovered on Wednesday after a search by the U.S. Army, the Lithuanian military and other Lithuanian authorities, the U.S. military said. The soldiers still had not been found on Thursday because the Army was struggling to extract the vehicle from the mud. “The challenges presented by the water, thick mud and soft ground around the site have complicated recovery efforts and have required specialized equipment to drain water from the side and stabilize the ground,” the Army said in a statement on Thursday. Engineers on the site were building berms — barriers made of dirt and sand — to create a contained area from which water could be pumped and mud dredged, allowing emergency workers to access the vehicle, the Army said.

Another remarkable performance from a high-street fashion name that has been knocking it out of the park, financially speaking, for years. Next’s full-price sales were up on expectations for the first few months of 2025, and so it’s now increased its profit guidance for the financial year by a whopping £20 million. These are the kind of figures of which most British fashion operations — most British anything operations, Next being only the fourth UK retailer to nudge above the billion mark — can only dream. Anna Murphy says she sees herself in the baby blue geo-print trouser suit. By, pretty obviously, creating clothes that we want to buy, and, also obviously, at prices we can afford to pay.

President Trump has told Ukraine to hand over more of its minerals, oil and gas reserves as part of a revised economic deal that offers Kyiv no security guarantees in return. In a draft text sent to Ukraine, the United States demanded a greater share of Ukraine’s mineral wealth and compensation of over $100 billion (£77 billion) for previous American support. The move is a further blow to British and French efforts to secure a “just” peace for Ukraine amid a growing rift between Washington and its European allies. One Ukrainian official described the new US draft proposal as “unfair”, while another likened it to “robbery”. A third said the deal was “disgusting”, adding that President Zelensky would be tempted to fight on without US

President Trump has increased tariffs on car imports to raise revenue to offset his promised tax cuts and revive a declining US industrial base. Here is the expected impact on Britain and its carmakers:Donald Trump said he would implement a global 25 per cent tariff on car imports. The levies will initially target fully assembled vehicles but their scope will expand over the following month to include car parts such as engines, transmissions, powertrain components and electrical systems. They could expand even further after that, a statement from the White House said. Trump described the tariffs as “permanent” and said he was not interested in offering any carve-outs.
