Ghebreyesus has laid out his plans and goals to further fight the coronavirus and other priorities as he pitched his case for a new five-year term. It came as he has faced criticism from the government of his own country Ethiopia over his comments about the embattled Tigray region. Tedros is running unopposed for a second five-year term that he is all but certain to win at the WHO's annual assembly in May. Tedros, who like many Ethiopians goes by his first name, is running unopposed for a second term as WHO director-general. Tedros was Ethiopia's foreign minister and health minister when the TPLF dominated the country’s ruling coalition.
