KUALA LUMPUR: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is bringing the private sector and non-governmental organisations working with refugees together this Saturday in conjunction with World Refugee Day. UNHCR Malaysia spokesperson Yante Ismail said there have been increasing interests shown by the public and private sector in funding projects that will empower the local refugee community. "The Marketplace event aims to create a platform to bring together potential private sector donors and groups running projects for refugees in an interactive atmosphere where they can meet and talk. "Groups can pitch their proposals for funding needs in areas of health, education, livelihoods, and protection," Yante told The Star Online. The event will also feature handicraft products made by refugees which will be on sale to the public.
