Trai rules on predatory pricing, SMP in line with changing times: Pradip Baijal

Trai and the new operator have termed baseless the allegations of bias. Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular had moved the telecom tribunal seeking an interim stay on the order, which though wasn’t granted.“The tariff order is tailor-made for them (incumbents) also and it was done by Trai after undertaking consultation with them,” he said, opposing the incumbent telcos’ views. “They can always go to TDSAT, but they know they have a zero chance of winning the case,” said Baijal. TDSAT will next hear the matter on April 17.Baijal further backed Trai’s stance that tariff was well within its rights. “There is a Supreme Court order by Justice Ruma Paul which has said that tariff is primarily the concern of the telecom regulator,” Baijal said.
