Three top charities join with Tesco to make healthy eating a priority in the fight against diseases

Now three of the UK’s biggest health charities have teamed up with Tesco in a five-year programme to address the issue by influencing what shoppers put in their baskets. Diabetes UK, the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK have agreed to share expertise and insight from their research and science teams with the supermarket. It says the five big barriers to healthy eating are access and visibility, cost, information, time and taste. Heavy drinking is implicated in the development of breast cancer, and a poor diet is linked to bowel cancer, pancreatic cancer and oesophageal cancer. And the chain will also train its pharmacy teams to help improve customers’ awareness and information on cancer, heart and circulatory disease, and Type 2 diabetes.
