Seven Jubilee MPs from Western on Saturday raised Sh1.8 million for former Cabinet minister Soita Shitanda’s funeral. On Thursday, MPs were asked to each contribute Sh5,000 for Shitanda’s funeral. “As leaders from the Sugar Belt we should ensure Shitanda’s fight for cane farmers’ welfare continues,” he said. Savula also said harassment of cane farmers by millers who demand between Sh2,000 and Sh3,000 to get permits to harvest their cane must stop.
