Red card removes sheen from Waterford’s win

An All-Ireland hurling quarter-final of two goals, which was one goal more than may have reasonably been anticipated. The first goal, however, decided the outcome, even if it only made Waterford’s half-time advantage five points instead of two. That was still enough to scupper the hopes of Wexford, a team that isn’t designed to come from behind and overhaul leads. Apart from a brief flurry after half-time, Wexford never looked as though they would get within hailing distance of the winners. Waterford comfortably closed out the game, but their satisfaction will have been diluted by the straight red card shown to Tadhg de Búrca five minutes from the end.
