More than 9.600 have been arrested from June 9 last year when the social unrest began, to July 31, according to Hong Kong Police data. Many of the suspects have been charged with rioting. In a Facebook post, the police said 9,664 people had been arrested, while 2,062 were prosecuted for anti-fugitive offender bill demonstrations. In that period, 662 have been prosecuted for "riots,'' while 322 were prosecuted for for "illegal assembly." And 316 were prosecuted for "possession of offensive weapons.''
