Man charged following assault at Newmarket ice rink


One man has been charged with assault following an incident at a Newmarket hockey rink on Dec. 22. The alleged assault took place during an Ontario Minor Hockey Association hockey game between the TNT Tornados and the Newmarket Redmen. A 21-year-old on-ice official was allegedly punched in the head as he was returning to the ice, following a game intermission between the second and third periods of the game. The victim was taken to Southlake Regional Health Centre, and treated for facial cuts and concussion symptoms. The Head Coach has been suspended until Jan. 15 as this position is responsible for the conduct of their team officials and players.”
