Veteran fought in three WWII campaignsJoseph C. “Joe” Etta, 102, a lifelong resident of Cold Spring, died Tuesday (Dec. 22) at the Castle Point VA Medical Center in Wappingers Falls. Etta was born in Cold Spring on April 22, 1918, the son of Giuseppe and Francesca (Botta) Etta. He had visited the World War II Memorial twice before but said this trip was no less rewarding. I just can’t talk enough about it.”In 2018, when Etta turned 100, Cold Spring Mayor Dave Merandy proclaimed April 22 as Joseph C. Etta Day. Etta will be laid to rest with military honors alongside his wife at Cold Spring Cemetery.
