ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) declared on Thursday that a contempt petition against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is maintainable for hearing. Petitioner Advocate Makhdoom Niaz Inqalabi has pleaded the court to ban transmission of Nawaz’s public speeches and media talks due to his “anti-judiciary remarks”. The Lahore High Court is hearing a similar case against the former prime minister. The Supreme Court (SC) recently disqualified Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senator Nehal Hashmi and sentenced him to one month in prison in a contempt case. State Interior Minister Tallal Chaudry and Federal Privatisation Minister Daniyal Aziz are facing contempt cases in the SC and will be indicted next week.
