Waititu who backed President William Ruto's presidential election in 2022, said he dumped UDA, but is yet to join the Azimio coalition. "I left UDA party and I never joined Azimio. He said that in the next election, the Mount Kenya region will field its own candidate. He said that by doing so, the respect of Mount Kenya must be restored noting that the interest of Mount Kenya can't be represented by an outsider. Waititu further petitioned Mt Kenya leaders to support the proposal for one man, one vote and one shilling.
