Much of the North Island has a risk of thunderstorms and bursts of heavy rain as a front moves slowly northeast across the island on Monday, preceded by strong and humid northerlies. GEORGE HEARD/STUFF After being smashed by torrential downpours last week, the West Coast had some more bursts of heavy rain overnight. The front that brought that rain is moving north, putting the North Island at risk of thunderstorms and downpours during Monday. Moist northerlies ahead of the front were bringing humid air and showers to many areas of the North Island. MetService is warning of a moderate risk of thunderstorms, with a possibility of heavy rain for all the top half of the North Island, and for the west of the lower North Island.
