The Egyptian Radio and Television Union will broadcast the Eid al-Fitr prayers from Al-Sayeda Nafeesah Mosque, said the spokesperson for the Ministry of Endowments Abdallah Hassan on Wednesday. The move comes due to coronavirus prevention measures in place during Eid al-Fitr, with Hassan explaining that only specifically approved employees from the ministry and mosque will be performing the prayers. Al-Azhar’s Senior Scholar Authority on Sunday decreed that, owing to the coronavirus pandemic, all Muslims must perform the Eid al-Fitr prayers at home either alone or with their families. Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Wednesday reiterated that citizens must abide by coronavirus prevention measures imposed by the government during and after the Eid al-Fitr holiday, including a ban on public gatherings. Madbouly had previously announced that the government will impose additional restrictions during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday, to prevent the large public gatherings that often occur as part of the festivities.
