CAIRO – 6 November 2020: The European Union (EU) will play a positive role in the controversial issues of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, said European Council President Charles Michel in an interview with al-Hadath channel on Friday. Michel added that the EU also is following up on the latest development in Ethiopia, clarifying that the council has close contact with the Ethiopian authorities. During the meeting, resident Sisi proposed establishing an international forum that gathers people from Islamic and European communities to fight extremism. The conflict between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia dates back to May 2011 when Ethiopia started building the dam; Egypt voiced concern over its water share [55.5 billion cubic meters]. “We support that role and we support the negotiations that are ongoing [...] There are talks going on and we as the European Union will continue our services,” he said.
