EDITORIAL: State's next ed czar waiting in the wings


The new CEO of the state's elementary and secondary public school system come on board at a most challenging time. In fact, while more than 90 percent of Massachusetts students pass the required MCAS graduation exam annually, a growing number is not ready to take on college level studies. 1 issue facing Massachusetts public in-district schools compared to public charter schools, where teachers work longer days. If either is chosen, she would become the state's first woman education commissioner. Massachusetts needs an education commissioner who'll stand up to the crowd and stand out on progress.
