Coronavirus crisis makes Boris Johnson more personally accountable than usual


This week the House of Commons voted to appoint me as the chairman of the liaison committee, and yesterday we had our first meeting. I accept there was concern about the way this has come about but I had no difficulty in assuring committee members that I consider myself accountable to them, and to the House. No member of the committee has suggested anything but that they have confidence that I will be independent. It is my first priority, now supported by the committee, to obtain a commitment from the prime minister to come before the committee as soon as possible. This committee is the only one to which the prime minister gives oral evidence, but he has yet to do so, despite being appointed
