A year on, with Rohith's friend and Dalit scholar Muthukrishnan "Krish" Jeevanantham committing suicide at JNU on Monday, Union ministers have been showing a vastly different face that has left many student leaders sceptical. "The BJP is doing this to save its skin," JNU students' union president Mohit Pandey said. He added: "From day one, the students had fought for an FIR to be filed (over Krish's death). "Death was from asphyxia (suffocation) as a result of ante-mortem (before death) hanging. Later, at a news conference, several Dalit students and writers recounted their stories of discrimination at educational institutions.
