A new 'Langya' virus hits China.35 Cases Reported So Far


According to Taiwan’s Center for Disease Control (CDC), a new type of rangya henipa virus (LayV) was discovered in China, with 35 confirmed human infections so far. The henipavirus, commonly known as “Langya” henipavirus (LayV), has infected 35 people in eastern China’s Henan and Shandong provinces, according to official Chinese media on Tuesday. The virus is likely transmitted from animals to humans and can cause kidney and liver failure, the Taipei Times said. This virus belongs to a family of viruses that can kill three quarters of humans in extreme cases. There is currently no vaccination or treatment for Langya virus.
