It’s easy to pass the entrance of The Old Man while walking uphill on Aberdeen Street, a meandering street in Hong Kong's Soho neighborhood. What you find inside is a creative, intimate cocktail bar with Cuban/tropical décor owned by three heavyweights in the Hong Kong cocktail scene: Agung Prabowo, formerly bar manager of the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, James Tamang, formerly bar manager of the Mira Hotel’s bar Vibes and Roman Ghale, formerly bar and restaurant operations manager at the Upper House. A sophisticated clientele perches on bar stools at the long I-shaped wooden bar (which contains a useful cooling strip down the center to keep cocktails in top form) or at a few tables and banquettes along the back wall. But classics such as Negronis and Highballs are very much in the mix too. And since it’s open until 2 AM, it’s a perfect drop in spot after dinner in one of the neighborhood’s many restaurants—if you can find it.
