1,500 German letter carriers bitten by dogs each year

Appel said that the company's 100,000 mail deliverers were trained in dealing with dogs, but that many still had to take time off work for injuries inflicted by attacking canines. "Aggressive dogs should be brought inside when letter carriers are doing their rounds," Appel said, in a Sunday interview with Germany's Bild am Sonntag newspaper. Appel also said that his company was continuing to research using drones for the delivery of mail and packages, but clear laws needed to be put in place. "If our staff are driving drones they will need to get a license for that," Appel said. "At the moment we are testing drones for specific instances, for example for delivering medications to hard-to-reach locations."
