The SEC claims that after being informed of the imminent rebrand into Long Blockchain, Giguiere immediately bought 35,000 LTEA shares on December 20, 2017 for US$2.44 each. Watson has previously told the Herald he believes the complaint is without merit as he had not personally profited from any of the transactions in question. Giguiere filed late last year to dismiss the SEC case, with a key part of his defence being that Watson received no personal or financial benefit from the transaction. “The court agrees that the [SEC] sufficiently alleges that Lindsay and Watson are friends and that Watson intended to make a gift to Lindsay out of friendship,” Carter said. Watson faces legal war on multiple fronts, with the insider-trading case presenting arguably the least-serious threat.

But OT then changed its mind over her custody and decided the girl – named in court proceedings as Moana – should be in the care of another Māori family. However, the Smiths refused and, along with a lawyer for Moana, took court action to keep her in their care. Mrs Smith told Stuff the decision to give up their role as foster parents of the girl was extremely difficult. The controversial 2021 decision by the government drug-buying agency Pharmac to prioritise Māori and Pacific patients in its funding of two game-changing new diabetes drugs appears to have paid off. At the time, Pharmac wanted to restrict funding to those diabetes patients who met certain health criteria. After sustained lobbying, Pharmac decided to prioritise funding for Māori and Pacific patients without needing to meet additional criteria. Initially, Pharmac opted to fund the new diabetes drugs by special authority, requiring funded patients to meet specific clinical criteria. In a first for the agency, all Māori and Pacific patients with current type 2 diabetes could access these drugs without the need to meet any further clinical criteria.

By Arieta Vakasukawaqa in SuvaThe installation of the Turaga Bale na Vunivalu Na Tui Kaba, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, clearly indicates that Fiji’s traditional chiefly system still has a strong footing and chiefs still command respect among the country’s citizens. This is the view of Dr Paul Geraghty, the University of the South Pacific’s associate professor of linguistics. Dr Geraghty said even though the previous government had downplayed the role of chiefs, the population at large did not belittle their roles in society. He said given that those who had opposed Ratu Epenisa had passed on, he was the oldest available candidate and one who knew Bau and its people well. Meanwhile, iTaukei Affairs Minister Ifereimi Vasu said the installation of Ratu Epenisa was significant to the reinstatement of the GCC.

The tax system is based on taxing only declared wage and salary incomes or consumption taxes the are unequal in their impact. Credit Suisse rank among the 30 most important banks in the global financial system, and they have almost $1.7 trillion in assets. That will worsen the current account deficit and increase deficit spending without tax increases. We must pay for these reforms through a wealth tax which affects only the richest 5% of New Zealanders. Climate refugees from the Pacific must be given safe passage and citizenship due to Aotearoa’s historical responsibility in the region.

Knight, who is the father of owner Adeline, told AM the chase didn't end there, with a 66-year-old man with a leg prosthesis going after the alleged robber. There was a guy parking his car … however he saw what was happening, so he kept his car running instead of parking. He had his granddaughter in the back and started following the man down the street in his car," Knight told AM co-host Melissa Chan-Green. Knight said the 66-year-old man pulled up beside the robber and said, 'stop, give that back, give all that stuff back'. They then returned to the store and bought the watches back to us," he said.
