Goodbye Three Waters - hello, “Affordable Water Reforms”. The Government has scrapped a major part of its unpopular Three Waters reforms, ditching the four mega entities that would have delivered Three Waters (freshwater, wastewater, and stormwater) services to households. The 10 entities will allow local councils more direct engagement with the water entities that will manage water services on their behalf. The Three Waters reforms were meant to help local councils deal with the eyewatering cost of investment in water infrastructure - estimated to be about $130-$185 billion over the next thirty years. The Three Waters reforms were the brainchild of former Local Government Minister Nanaia Mahuta.

There was an early discussion around whether a full co-governance model should be adopted here and ultimately, the government decided not to do that."

Here's our summary of key economic events overnight that affect New Zealand, with news inflation seems to be cooling in the world's largest economies. On Tuesday we noted the retreat of Chinese inflation, today the US is signaling a retreat as well. The closely-watched US CPI inflation rate slowed for a ninth consecutive period to 5.0% in March from the same month a year ago, its lowest since May 2021. Markets liked the inflation result however, and stocks initially rose, bond yields didn't react, and the USD firmed. Indian industrial production rose at a little-changed rate in February (+5.6% from a year ago), and their consumer inflation rate slipped to 5.7% in March from +6.4% in February, and close to the top of their wide inflation target range.

Air NZ only climbed down after chief executive Greg Foran intervened and apologised - as the plane was about to depart - and then ordered the airline to review its policy on repatriating bodies. Delamere-Mill - niece of former Immigration Minister Tuariki Delamere - has since met with Air NZ cargo manager James Reddy and its recently-appointed Māori development lead, Tupara Morrison, to discuss how they can avoid the situation happening to another family. He said Air NZ was "committed to improving our knowledge of te ao Māori" and they would learn from the experience. Photo: Supplied / StuffMorrison, who said he had been hired by Air NZ to come up with a Māori strategy, said Air NZ would commit to a whānau-led approach in future. "Where we got to was from a tikanga perspective, the whānau should be able to choose the consignee.

The obligation of the Government is to regulate Capitalism so that we the people benefit from the competitive dynamics of competition! Our top tax rate is the 39th highest in the world behind all the Scandinavian countries plus Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and South Africa! Australia’s top tax rate is 47cents! Our GST rate doesn’t even get us into the top 50 and our corporate tax rate is 40th while Government spending against GDP ranks 56th! I’m not looking for socialism here folks, just basic garden variety regulated capitalism!

Cute and compact, this tiny Auckland home was on-trend long before ‘tiny homes’ officially became cool. According to Arch Pro, most tiny houses are 37sq m or less, which makes the Kingsland cottage ‘large’ by comparison. “In the bedroom, you can have a double bed, side tables, a wardrobe, and there’s still a good walk-around area,” Ms Pickering told stuff.co.nz. The outdoors is a classic Auckland subtropical garden, with palms, monstera and banana trees shading a small courtyard. “This makes it a unique investment opportunity for anyone looking to get onto the property ladder in this area.”
