All parties should commit to setting up a sovereign wealth fund in their election manifestos, a think tank has said. Lakshmi Narayanan, chairman of the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute (SWFI), believes the UK can 'easily' have a £395billion fund within three to five years. Narayanan said it is 'high time' for the UK to announce a sovereign wealth fund' and that a £395billion pool could be a boost for the London stock market. He added: 'Every political party should announce their intention to create a sovereign wealth fund and make it part of their first implementation plan. The Mail on Sunday last year reported Treasury officials explored the idea of setting up a sovereign fund.

Further the accused threatened the complainant with dire consequences to kill. Dublin Airport has said eight passengers were taken to hospital after a flight from Doha experienced turbulence. “The return flight to Doha (flight QR018) is scheduled to operate as normal this afternoon, albeit with a delay. “Flight operations at Dublin Airport were unaffected and continue as normal this afternoon.”Twelve people in total were injured after the Dublin-bound flight encountered turbulence over Turkey and was met by emergency services after landing in Dublin about 1pm. Graeme McQueen, media relations manager at DAA, the operator of Dublin Airport, said its team was providing assistance to passengers and staff. "Qatar Airways flight QR017 from Doha landed safely as scheduled at Dublin Airport shortly before 13.00 on Sunday,” he said.

Seven babies have died after a fire broke out in a baby care centre in India’s capital New Delhi on Saturday night, a fire service officer said. Rescuers carried 12 newborns from the centre to a nearby hospital, but seven died due to smoke inhalation, fire officer Atul Garg said.

An Garda Siochana said they were refused leave to land and were returned to the UK across four days of action. The force said officers conducted 11 days of action in quarter four of 2023, and up to May 20, a further 10 days of action had taken place. Gardai said they have “significant operational co-operation with the UK Border Force, UK policing services and the Police Service of Northern Ireland, supported organisationally by the Cross Border Joint Action Task Force”. “Our Immigration officers work in close collaboration with personnel operating buses and trains in the area,” they added. Immigration officers will clearly identify themselves to all passengers on buses or trains.
