‘Each orgasm I experienced for money shattered three decades of conditioning regarding the meaning of work and play’In her new book Subjectified, sexologist Suzannah Weiss recalls a youth spent feeling disempowered and disconnected from her body, and how she learned to reclaim her own sexuality, independent of the male gazeSuzannah Weiss: ‘Sex workers are often scapegoated despite so many of us doing stuff for money that we don’t like’Suzanne Harrington Today at 03:30When Suzannah Weiss was 13, she began to realise that her body, changing through puberty, no longer belonged to just her. The alternatives — Israel running Gaza or Gaza becoming another Somalia — are far worse. But until then, Israel would be crazy to want to stay in Gaza and be responsible for its reconstruction. Sadly, if all this war does is buy Israel another long timeout with Hamas, well, maybe that’s all that’s possible. After all, up to now, the real history of Jews and Palestinians, going back to the early 20th century, has been: war, timeout, war, timeout, war, timeout, war, timeout, war, timeout. Maybe one day that will change, but for now Israel needs to get the hell out of Gaza and back into a timeout.

Local Independent Ireland councillors aren’t happy that they’ve been “locked out” of power in the new County Council, which meets for the first time tomorrow. They had been in talks with Fianna Fail for a pact that would’ve required the support of some independents and Sinn Fein. But now, it’s been revealed that Fianna Fail has entered a pact with Fine Gael instead – and despite already having a majority, it’s also taken on-board a number of independents. Speaking to Galway Talks, Independent Ireland Councillor Noel Thomas had this opinion on the abrupt about-face. The post Independent Ireland councillors unhappy after being “locked out” of power in new County Council appeared first on Galway Bay FM.

BOOK: This is Not a Self-Help BookI just finished reading Mark Mehigan’s This is Not a Self-Help Book, and it’s just brilliant. I’m trying to read more, as I’m one of those people who needs to learn to shut off. TV: Sex and the CityI absolutely love terrestrial TV. I really enjoy the feeling of everyone watching something at the same time then live-posting on social media about it. FESTIVAL Trinity Summer SeriesOver the years I’ve been championing Trinity Summer Series, there’s something special about the central location.

READ MORE BY NEIL MACKAYI can’t face voting either SNP or Labour. Believe me, I’m looking for reasons to vote Labour.
