Fake GST officials conduct raid, loot trader at Market Yard
Five persons pretending to be officers of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department and one posing as a journalist conducted a fake raid at a shop in Market Yard, duping the trader of around ₹20,000. Mahesh Totamal Daryani (52), a betel nut trader, filed a complaint at the Market Yard Police Station on Thursday regarding the incident that took place on February 8. The trader cooperated with the fake officials believing them to be legitimate representatives of the tax authority. Sensing something amiss, the trader sought identity cards and authority papers from the visitors to conduct the raid. A case under Sections 170, 419, 420 of the IPC has been registered against the six unknown individuals at Market Yard Police Station.

India's ‘zero-food’ children shame: 6.7m kids have nothing to eat for entire day - Telegraph India

The researchers who conducted the study compared estimates of zero-food children across 92 low-income and middle-income countries. They said that more research was needed to unravel “the underlying causes” of zero-food prevalence, the barriers to optimal adequate child-feeding practices, and the ways socioeconomic factors might influence child-feeding behaviour. Subramanian and his colleagues had last year generated India’s first estimate of the prevalence of zero-food children, based on the 2019-2021 health survey data.

The court found the 24-year-old guilty on charges including rape, murder, kidnapping, destruction of evidence of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, while it acquitted a co-accused, who was also booked on the same charges, for lack of evidence. The court said that the crime was pre-planned and would “send a chill down the spine of every parent of a girl child, especially in a poor vicinity”.

Jobless rate declines to record 3.1% in 2023
