The current El Nino event, which developed in June 2023, was at its strongest between November and January. This made it one of the five strongest El Nino events ever, though it was weaker than the 1997-98 and 2015-2016 events. El Nino is mainly a seasonal climate phenomenon with climate impacts on seasonal climate averages but can make extreme weather and climate-events more likely in certain regions.

The city's police commissioner, Kevin Bethel, said about 15 to 20 students were at a bus stop in the city's Ogontz neighbourhood around 3:45 p.m. when two people walked up and opened fire. Police said one 17-year-old was pronounced dead at a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Two 15-year-olds had graze wounds and a 49-year-old woman and a 71-year-old woman on the bus were hit, they said. Authorities said the older women was hit in the head and the younger woman in the arm, adding all four were in stable condition.

Google agrees to restore Indian apps on Play Store: Vaishnaw
New Delhi: Google has agreed to restore delisted Indian apps on its Play Store and will work on a solution to the contentious payment issue, IT and Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday. Google and startups had multiple rounds of discussion with the government on Monday, following which the tech giant agreed to restore the delisted apps. Earlier Google faced a backlash from the startups who were protesting over its PlayStore billing system which was charging a 30% fee for using its payment system. According to Anupam Mittal the founder of shaadi.com, in an interview with Livemint.com, "Google charges us 30% under Google Play Billing System – which comes into effect if we use their payment system. If you were to use an alternative payment system you would still have to pay the company 26%.
