GST rate changes drive up costs of civil projects in Chennai
The cost of infrastructure projects, such as bridges, roads, and crematoriums, has started increasing in the city as the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate has been increased for work contracts and sub-contracts. Local authorities, such as the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), have started feeling the pinch as estimates for a number of projects have to be revised owing to the rate changes. The GST rate for contracts involving pipeline work and the associated sub-contracts have been increased from 12% to 18%. As the rate changes recommended by the 47th GST Council were made effective from July 18, 2022, the GST for work contracts for infrastructure projects were increased from 12% to 18%. As a result, the original estimates were lower, and the civic body had to revise the estimates for such projects.

Goa’s FLY91 granted air operator certificate
FLY91, a Goa-based regional airline, has received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation, according to government officials. “This is a significant milestone for FLY91,” said Manoj Chacko, MD and CEO of the airline. The airline focuses on connecting tier 2 and tier 3 cities in India. FLY91 already secured routes under the government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) UDAN. These routes will connect cities like Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Nanded, and Agatti with major destinations like Bengaluru, Goa, Hyderabad, and Pune.

RK Swamy IPO subscribed 26 times on retail & HNI support
The initial public offer of Chennai-based integrated marketing services firm R K Swamy has received an overwhelming response from investors. Till 7 pm on the final day (Wednesday, March 6) of bidding, the ₹423.56-crore IPO received 25.94 times subscription securing bids for 21,35,31,650 shares against 82,32,946 shares on offer. The category for retail individual investors (RIIs) received 34.03 times subscriptions, while the portion for non-institutional investors/high networth individuals got subscribed 34.36 times.
