The Hagia Sophia, once a cathedral, now a mosque, was built on the foundation of a pagan temple. The Umayyad Mosque of Damascus was built on the site of a Christian basilica — which stood on the site of a temple to Jupiter. Yet Hindus built temples and kept worshipping. Ayodhya is not the only Hindu holy city with a mosque built, intentionally, on a Hindu holy site. They make it as far as Italy, where they level the Vatican and build a Ram temple on the site.
