The Head of the Suez Canal Authority in Egypt Osama Rabea announced Saturday that navigation statistics for the canal during the first quarter of 2022 recorded a remarkable increase in the number and tonnage of ships transiting the waterway, which has not been impacted by the Russian-Ukrainian war. He added that navigational reports during the first quarter of this year monitored a significant increase in the transit rates of various types of ships compared to the same period last year. General cargo ships recorded an 18.1 percent increase, and tankers increased by 6.5 percent. The number of cruise ships passing through the canal doubled compared to the same period last year.
