A friend from my hometown in Tumpat, Kelantan, was lost for words when he went to apply for a permit for inter-district travel to send food to his sister-in-law in a village in Kota Baru recently. The sister-in-law was desperately facing shortage of food supplies and had no means of obtaining food for her family’s survival. My friend, who faces walking difficulties himself, had sent his nephew to the nearest police station to seek a letter from the police for inter-district travel but was told he could not get the letter without a support letter. What support letter may I ask and from whom? It is a matter of life and death where we do not need unnecessary protocols to hinder the request.
