CAIRO – 1 December 2021: The House of Culture and Science, known as Al-Sennari House, will organize a poetry and lyrical evening open to the public under the title “The Visible Side of Heaven” on December 2 at 7 p.m. The evening includes a group of sessions that combine vernacular poetry and singing. Al-Sennari House is one of the finest examples of the residential buildings of princes and statesmen in Islamic Cairo. The house is of special historical importance, as its history is also linked to the French campaign against Egypt 1798-1801 AD. A number of members of the Science and Arts Committee within the campaign resided there, mostly painters and engineers.

The Egyptian government on Wednesday refuted rumors that it was suspending study in all schools, universities and institutes nationwide due to the Omicron coronavirus strain. A statement by the cabinet’s media center said that it had contacted the ministries of Education and Technical Education, and Higher Education and Scientific Research to comment on rumors that schools would be suspended. The two ministries denied the news and appealed to all students to only seek information from official sources. They stressed that any decisions related to suspending schools or universities are taken by the Supreme Committee for Coronavirus Crisis Management after assessing the developments in the pandemic’s epidemiological situation, which currently does not require such measures. The Ministry of Higher Education confirmed that many vaccination points have been set up near and inside Egyptian universities in order to enhance the process of vaccinating students.

CAIRO - 1 December 2021: Egyptian authorities on Wednesday continued opening the Rafah border crossing on both sides for nearly six months upon the directives of the political leadership. The measure is meant to facilitate the crossing of stranded people and the entry of aid and construction materials into the Gaza Strip. The authorities responsible for managing the terminal said administrative and technical staff is on hand to speed up the completion of transit procedures and the entry of relief aid and reconstruction materials into the Palestinian enclave. The crossing has been opened according to directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi since May 16, 2021. This comes within the framework of the Egyptian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian citizen in the strip, restore the normal life of people in Gaza and start the reconstruction process.

The Chairman of Cairo Association against Smoking, Tuberculosis and Lung diseases consultant Essam Elmoghazy said on Tuesday that the Omicron coronavirus strain is very severe and almost unrecognizable from the virus that first appeared in Wuhan. In statements to the Extra News satellite channel on Tuesday, Elmoghazy was unable to confirm whether a PCR swab is able to distinguish between Omicron and COVID-19, and whether currently available vaccines are effective in combating the Omicron mutant. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country will seek steps of rapprochement with Egypt, after positive talks with the UAE. Erdogan’s statements came in a meeting, Monday, with journalists on board a plane, coming from Turkmenistan. Erdogan, whose ruling AK Party is rooted in political Islam, had been a strong supporter of Morsi. Turkey has taken rapprochement steps with Egypt last year, as the two parties have held rounds of exploratory talks in Ankara and Cairo, which did not lead to a full normalization of relations. In his statements Monday, Erdogan confirmed he plans to visit the UAE in February, stressing that the agreements signed with the UAE during talks in Ankara “will begin a new era” in the relations between the two countries.
