The Ministry of Health and Population in Egypt announced on Sunday that it had received 1,842,750 doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine, provided by the US government through the COVAX mechanism in cooperation with the International Alliance for Vaccines Gavi. A statement by the ministry said that the shipment arrived on Saturday evening, at Cairo International Airport. It comes within the state’s plan to diversify and expand the provision of coronavirus vaccines, in order to preserve the state’s gains in addressing the pandemic. The Pfizer vaccine has emergency use approval from the World Health Organization and the Egyptian Drug Authority, which is two doses separated by 21 days, it added. Egypt has thus far succeeded in providing all types of vaccines against the coronavirus, according to Government reports.

CAIRO - 23 January 2022: Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad and Tourism Minister Khaled Anani conferred Sunday on preparations for an upcoming climate change conference COP 27. The meeting took up steps to turn Sharm El Sheikh into a green city to help achieve sustainability across Egypt. Fouad said they talked about cooperation between the two ministries to implement measures as part of a sustainable tourism strategy ahead of the COP27. Anani said the Egyptian tourism sector is willing to exert utmost effort to render the COP27 successful. Fouad met on Jan. 21 with Under-Secretary-General of the UN and Executive Secretary of ESCWA Rola Dashti and her accompanying delegation to discuss technical support the ESCWA could offer to Egypt as part of preparations for the Parties (COP27) of the UN Climate Change Conference, set for Red Sea Resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh later in the year.

CAIRO - 23 January 2022: “Egypt is the first African country to issue green bonds,” Finance Minister Mohamed Maait said Saturday. The Minister of Finance added that the ministry is currently seeking to mechanize the Egyptian economy, through the development of the electronic system at the tax and customs authorities. Maait stated that reducing the customs release time was one of the ministry's most important priorities, in addition to the interest in making goods entering Egypt compatible with international standards. The minister pointed out that work is currently underway to control the current economic situation, balance supply and demand, and provide citizens' basic needs. “Providing job opportunities for young people at the present time is considered a national security for Egypt, and therefore we continue to work on current projects to provide these opportunities and protect against any disruption in society,” the minister noted.
