Protesters have reportedly set fire to multiple trucks near the Majuba Pass, approximately 40km (25 miles) north of Newcastle, and are blocking traffic along the N11 highway as of early Dec. 11. The motive for the protest is unclear; however, it could be related to poor service delivery in the area. Authorities will likely deploy to extinguish the fires and manage the protest. Road traffic and public transport disruptions are likely. Officials may attempt to disperse the demonstrators, which could prompt clashes.

Economically, it revolves around the discovery of the natural gas field near Gaza in 2002, known as the „Gaza Marine”. On the other hand, he added that neither should the Palestinian people be collectively punished for Hamas attacks. According to Al Jazeera, for every Palestinian released, Israel has arrested at least one other Palestinian.

Among the many differences between Israel’s current war against Hamas in Gaza and the other wars it has fought in the past few decades, one aspect has gone underexamined: its economic impact. Israel’s previous wars have had limited economic fallout, in part due to their brevity. Fortunately, the Israeli economy entered the war in relatively good shape in terms of its resilience and strength. The economy has recorded high, albeit declining, annual rates of growth, averaging 3.9 percent since 2000. In addition, Israel’s financial metrics were strong prior to the war, with a budget and current account surplus, and a falling debt-to-GDP ratio in 2022.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution reaffirming its support for the political process conducted under the exclusive auspices of the UN Security Council for the resolution of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, and reiterating the definitive burial of the referendum. The General Assembly thus confirmed the resolution adopted by the 4th committee last October. It thus supports the political process based on the 19 resolutions of the Security Council since 2007, to reach a “just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution” to the Sahara issue. It should be noted that the only new development in the political process since 2006 is the presentation by Morocco, on April 11, 2007, of the autonomy initiative. Actually, all these resolutions establish Algeria, together with Morocco, as the main party in this regional dispute.

Both sides have been embroiled in a tug of war since Bazoum’s ouster by General Abdourahamane Tiani on July 26. The regional organization imposed various sanctions including economic ones on the poor West African country and demanded Bazoum be restored as President or the country would face a military intervention. The Summit held in the Nigerian federal capital reiterated the sanctions but also requested a short period transition. General Abdourahamane Tiani in August 2023 announced a three-year transition but ECOWAS rubbished the move and further wielded the military intervention threat. In a separate decision on Niger, the Summit also appointed leaders of Togo, Benin, and Sierra Leone to mediate between the regional organization and Niger to the return of a civilian-led rule.
