Spate of whip sanctions as 12 people charged in a week MAT KERMEENTRISH DUNELL Six harness racing drivers were either fined or suspended at one race meeting earlier this month. In the week that ended on Sunday, 12 whip charges were issued by the RIU between the harness and thoroughbred racing codes. RIU general manager Mike Godber said it was an "exceptionally high week" but the spike in charges illustrated the rules were being strictly enforced. Godber said to keep whip sanctions in context, the RIU compare monthly averages rather than isolate one high or low week. It keeps detailed records of all whip charges for reviews and comparisons.
